John Oliver calls out Biden for not signing refugee reform: ‘Pick up a f***ing pen’

During Sunday’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, the host took President Biden to task for failing to live up to his promises of refugee admissions reform. Shortly after his inauguration, Biden announced plans to undo the heavy restrictions that former President Trump put in place and to quadruple the number of refugee admissions that were allowed under the previous administration. Although, Biden has yet to sign a determination or executive order on the subject.

"Until Biden signs that determination, they're still beholden to Trump's low admissions ceiling and bulls*** racist rules," Oliver said. "And remember, these are vulnerable people who may have surrendered their belongings or homes in anticipation of leaving the country or who are waiting in camps."

According to Oliver, there are nearly 115,000 refugees in various stages of the resettlement process. While the refugees wait for asylum, they are exposed to many dangers, particularly in the midst of a global pandemic.

"He just needs to sign a piece of paper," Oliver exclaimed. "And for a guy who clearly wanted to be the person who 'restored the soul' of America, it's past time for him to look deep into his own, pick up a f***ing pen, and do the right thing."
