Jill Biden Wore a Classic Print to Attend the Tokyo Olympics

Dr. Jill Biden made a sophisticated appearance at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics on Friday.

The first lady wore a black-and-white polka-dot dress for the event, complete with a black clutch bag and matching shoes, as well as a black protective face mask with a small American flag on it as she cheered on Team U.S.A. at the games. She finished off the look with a layered pearl necklace and wore her hair in loose waves.

Though the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has been a cause of concern at the games as multiple athletes have tested positive, the White House confirmed earlier this week that the Dr. Biden would still be attending. The visit also marks her first solo international trip as first lady.

"There's been no change, [Jill Biden is] still planning on attending the games," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Tuesday, adding, "The president, the first lady felt it was important to have the delegation lead at the highest level. So, she is looking forward to continuing her travels."

The first lady also wrote an open letter in support of Team U.S.A. athletes, noting their hard work and perseverance.

"Becoming an Olympian is a rare accomplishment in a normal time, but you did it during a global pandemic," she wrote. "You are forever one of the most elite, most celebrated and most accomplished athletes in the world."

"Your entire nation is cheering you on and we are grateful for what you've given us: the chance to come together in common awe and appreciation for your accomplishments and the shared joy of rooting for our country on the edge of our seats."
