JetBlue Flies to Mexico City, Boosts Latin American Presence

Low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways Corp. JBLU is consistently engaged in efforts to expand its operations. In keeping with this objective, the Long Island City, NY-based carrier announced the commencement of daily flights to Mexico City, thereby making the capital of Mexico its 91st destination across the globe. As far as the Latin America and Caribbean region is concerned, Mexico City marks the 35th destination for JetBlue.

Effective yesterday, JetBlue has started operating flights from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) to the Mexico City International Airport (MEX), thereby enhancing connectivity between two key Florida cities and Mexico’s capital. We note that Mexico City is a popular tourist spot, thanks to its large number of museums.

That Latin America is at the center of JetBlue’s expansion plans is evident. In addition to Mexico City, the company announced that it will start operating daily non-stop flights connecting FLL and the busy Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Ecuador. The new route, which will be operational from Feb 25, 2016, will facilitate connectivity between Fort Lauderdale in Florida and Ecuador’s capital, Quito. Tickets for the new route, which are initially priced at $139 (one-way), are already available.

Quito is also a key tourist spot with various attractions like museums, parks and is home to one of the best-preserved historic centers across the globe. Consequently, we are positive on the carrier’s decision to offer flights to Mexico City and Quito. We believe this should boost the company’s top line further on the back of increased demand.
