Yahoo Finance Jennifer Lopez Broke Up With Alex Rodriguez for Good: She Is ‘Feeling at Peace’ With Her Choice
Jennifer Lopez called her engagement off to Alex Rodriguez definitively. The couple announced their split in a statement yesterday morning to the Today Show. Now, E! has insight on why Lopez was the one who ended it — and why Rodriguez still hasn't completely given up on the idea of reconciling with her.
A source told E! that the couple broke up privately a few days ago, and Lopez is “feeling at peace” with her decision.
A second source told the outlet that her inability to trust Rodriguez was fatal to them. “Once her trust is broken, there's no turning around,” the source said. “She feels good about her decision because she knows A-Rod will still be in her life, just in a different capacity.”
Rodriguez, of course, made headlines earlier this year for his Madison LeCroy cheating rumors. LeCroy, a Southern Charm reality star, suggested she and Rodriguez may have been talking over DM in February 2021.
A source shot down the LeCroy rumors to Entertainment Tonight at the time, saying that Lopez wasn't bothered by them. “[They] are so connected both romantically as a couple and as a family with their kids and these rumors wouldn’t break that," the outlet's source said. "Jennifer isn’t bothered and doesn’t care about the Alex and Madison rumors. She thinks it’s outside noise and trusts Alex. She’s so in love with him.”
Page Six later reported in March, when outlets first reported they split, that Lopez actually was affected by the allegations. "The Madison LeCroy scandal was the reason they finally broke up,” a source told the outlet. “There were already problems, but Jennifer was really embarrassed by it.”
Still, Lopez and Rodriguez said in their statement today that they plan to stay friends: “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
And Rodriguez, according to E!, hasn't given up on winning Lopez back. “He is respecting her wishes right now, but has high hopes they will get back together,” a third source said. “He's doing anything in his power to make J.Lo happy.”

Page Six reported, meanwhile, that those close to A-Rod became tipped off to their split when he didn't involve Lopez in his bid to buy the Minnesota Timberwolves NBA team.
“It was clear they had split when she wasn’t in the Timberwolves deal like she was in the Mets bid — maybe she didn’t want to move to Minnesota,” a source close to Rodriguez said.
Multiple sources told Page Six that they still plan to work together though. One source said, “They will continue working in all of their business ventures together. They’ve always encouraged each other to dream big and go bigger — they’ve built something really unique together and the success of their business partnerships and goals are important to them.”
