Yahoo Finance The January 6 Apologists Have Let Antifa Off the Hook. Now the FBI Did It.
I think now we are far enough into this to declare that there is a Sedition Caucus within the Republican minority in the House of Representatives. Here is a good place to start if you’re formulating a roster.

Clyde (Ga.), Greg Steube (Fla.), Bob Good (Va.) and John Rose (Tenn.). Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Barry Moore (Ala.), Ralph Norman (S.C.), Matthew M. Rosendale (Mont.), Chip Roy (Tex.), Paul A. Gosar (Ariz.), Warren Davidson (Ohio), Scott Perry (Pa.), Jody Hice (Ga.) and Mary Miller (Ill.).
My favorites among the bunch are the 10 Republicans who previously voted for awarding the gold medal who flipped to vote "no" on Wednesday. What a noble clutch of primates they are. And while some of the names are those of familiar space aliens, there are some newbies in there with whom I was not familiar. For example, there's Mary Miller of Illinois, who wasn’t in office for a week before she started quoting Hitler. From the Guardian:
Miller paraphrased Hitler – who in 1935 told a rally: “He alone who owns the youth gains the future” – on Tuesday, in an address to a “Save the Republic” event hosted by Moms for America, a rightwing group which campaigns to “reclaim our culture for truth, family and freedom”. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a new congresswoman from Georgia who has supported the QAnon conspiracy theory, and Mike Lindell, the owner of My Pillow who has become a prominent Trump backer, also spoke at the event, which was held in support of Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn his election defeat by Joe Biden.
On January 6, a truck belonging to Miller’s husband, and decorated with a sticker promoting the Three Percenters, a famously radical right-wing paramilitary group, was spotted outside the Capitol, so there’s that. And there’s Barry Moore of Alabama, who is a big fan of Kyle Rittenhouse, the alleged Kenosha murderer. Warren Davidson of Ohio voted against a largely symbolic resolution condemning QAnon. And, shortly after being elected, Bob Good of Virginia told a Trump rally that the COVID pandemic was a hoax. This also happened at that same rally, according to Forbes:
The rallies included musical performances and also a bizarre religious event featuring Catholic priests, Alex Jones and a messianic Jewish rabbi who bellowed personal visions he had of the apocalypse.
Swell.
(And, I should point out that I found these various biographical details by googling the congresscritter’s name and "QAnon." I felt like Walter Huston in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.)
Having once again deftly avoided doing the decent thing, the Sedition Caucus also seems to be settling on a single explanation for the events of January 6. Antifa is off the hook. The FBI did it. Ask Tucker Carlson. From Media Matters:
We know that the government is hiding the identity of many law enforcement officers present at the Capitol on January 6, not just the ones that killed Ashley Babbitt. According to the government's own court filings, those law enforcement officers participated in the riot, sometimes in violent ways. We know that because without fail, the government has thrown the book at most people who were present in the Capitol on January 6. There was a nationwide dragnet to find them. Many of them are still in solitary confinement tonight.
But strangely, some of the key people who participated on January 6 have not been charged. Look at the documents; the government calls those people unindicted co-conspirators. What does that mean? Well, it means that in potentially every single case they were FBI operatives. Really? In the Capitol on January 6?
On December 15, 1814, influential New England Federalists met in Hartford to protest U.S. involvement in the War of 1812, and to protest the policies of national governments led consecutively by Democratic-Republican presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Some of the louder voices called for New England to secede from the Union. Unfortunately for these folks, the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the war, had already been signed, and almost at the same time that delegates from the Hartford meeting arrived in Washington to present their demands, news also arrived that Andrew Jackson had kicked the hell out of the British outside of New Orleans. This made the New England Federalists look so ridiculous that it destroyed the Federalist Party as a force in national politics. Madison, acting on the advice of Thomas Jefferson, did not act against the members of the convention. Instead, he allowed the Federalists to self-destruct, which they did in spectacular fashion.
We can only hope.
