Jadon Sancho: Manchester United planning for life with England star as Dortmund ponder new £72m bid

Manchester United are already planning for life with Jadon Sancho after lodging a second bid worth £72million for the England international.

That is still £5m below Borussia Dortmund’s asking price, but there is confidence on all sides that a deal will be done – two years after United first identified him as a target.

With Sancho’s camp happy with personal terms that were on the table last year, it is now a case of agreeing the finer details of the overall package.

Dortmund are believed to want around £4m in add-ons to get the deal over the line, with Sancho’s heart set on the move.

United are already much further ahead in their pursuit of Sancho than they were last year when their refusal to meet Dortmund’s asking price of more than £100m saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer miss out on his top target.

But the United manager and his coaching staff have remained determined to bring him to Old Trafford and have openly discussed what he can bring to a team that finished second in the Premier League last season.

They consider him one of the brightest talents in world football and capable of adding a new dimension to their attack. His arrival also gives Solskjaer the chance to play Mason Greenwood as an orthodox centre forward, which United hope could solve their long-standing striker issue – particularly after Edinson Cavani signed on for another year.

The club’s transfer committee have been searching for a prolific centre forward since selling Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in 2019. They missed out on Erling Haaland last year.

The Norwegian remains a long-standing target, along with Harry Kane, but those deals are seen as unlikely with both valued in the region of £150m.

There is hope within the club that Greenwood can establish himself as a 20-30-goal-a-season striker and he will be given more opportunities to play at the point of attack once Sancho arrives.
