Jackie Onassis’ Childhood Summer Home Hits Market in Hamptons

The 100-year-old house in East Hampton, NY, where Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis spent her childhood summers has hit the market. You can buy it as part of an 11-acre, $50 million sale, or simply snag a piece of the property— the house and 7 acres— for $39 million. Four adjacent acres, which include a tennis court, are also on the market for $15 million.

Town & Country says that Onassis’ grandfather John Vernou Bouvier Jr. owned the property, dubbed Lasata, a Native American word for “place of peace.”

Fashion designer Reed Krakoff and his wife, Delphine, purchased the estate in 2007 for $25 million and embarked on a renovation project.

But the Krakoffs are reportedly spending more time at their Connecticut estate, so their Hamptons place is on the block.

“We enjoy the process of bringing a house back to what it was more than the end product itself,” Delphine Krakoff, an interior designer, told Architectural Digest.

The main house, built in 1917 and designed by architect Arthur C. Jackson, is 8,500 square feet and includes 10 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. The entry boasts herringbone-patterned hardwood flooring, and the white kitchen features stainless-steel counters and wood plank floors.

The property sits near the ocean and includes a one-bedroom guesthouse, two-bedroom pool house, formal English gardens, and a three-car garage.
