Insurance consumer advocate Ronald Godin's post extended

Insurance consumer advocate Ronald Godin's post extended

The province's consumer advocate for insurance has had his mandate extended after speculation that his office may be closed, or moved.

Ronald Godin was appointed in 2004 to give a voice to consumers, but was told by the former Progressive Conservative government last April that his office would close before the year was out.

Godin says the post has been under review, and the new Liberal government opened the position to applicants.

"Just recently, after I made inquiries, I was asked to stay on, probably until the end of the current year, because the process hasn't been completed and it's part of a revision of several senior officers and agents of the administration," he said.

"So it looks as if I'll be here for the rest of the current year."

Godin says he's satisfied with the new development, and hopes the office will remain, even after his mandate ends.

Bathurst-area MLAs told CBC News late last year that many constituents raised the issue with them as they campaigned door-to-door.
