Have Insiders Been Buying Harvest One Cannabis Inc. (CVE:HVT) Shares?

It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Harvest One Cannabis Inc. (CVE:HVT).

What Is Insider Buying?

It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.

We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But equally, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year.'

Harvest One Cannabis Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

CEO & Director Grant Froese made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$104k worth of shares at a price of CA$0.87 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being CA$0.79). It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares is very important. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 486k shares worth CA$395k. In the last twelve months Harvest One Cannabis insiders were buying shares, but not selling. The chart below shows insider transactions (by individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We might be missing something but that seems like very low insider ownership.

So What Do The Harvest One Cannabis Insider Transactions Indicate?

It is good to see recent purchasing. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses.
