Initial jobless claims are at a 15-year low

Initial jobless claims are at a 15-year low.

Initial jobless claims rose slightly last week to 274,000, missing expectations for the report to show initial claims totaled 270,000 last week.

This initial claims reading, however, pushed the 4-week moving average of claims to another low.

The 4-week moving average of initial claims is now at 266,250, a decrease of 5,500 from last week and the lowest level since the week of April 15, 2000.

In a note to clients following the report, economists at BNP Paribas said, "Despite a string of disappointing activity data, we continue to get signs that the labor market remains resilient."
