Yahoo Finance India’s Goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan Signs For Icelandic Third-Tier Club Hamar Hveragerdi
Indian women’s team goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan has signed for Icelandic club Hamar Hveragerdi, becoming the second Indian woman footballer after Ngangom Bala Devi to earn a professional contract at an overseas club.
The announcement was made by the All India Football Federation through its social media handles.
Chauhan who played for West Ham United Ladies team earlier in her career on a semi-professional contract will now ply her trade in the third division of women’s football league in Iceland.

Chauhan was selected to represent Delhi women’s team in the under-19 level at the age of 15. She later went on to pursue an MSc degree in Sports Management from Loughborough University, where she represented their football team.
She has recently played two international friendlies with the Indian team when they toured Uzbekistan and played against the home team and Belarus. Chauhan had managed to impress with her performance on the field during the team’s recent defeats against Uzbekistan and Belarus.
The 28-year-old made her debut with the West Ham United Ladies in 2015. She became the first player from the Indian National Women’s team to play in England.
After spending two seasons with the club, she returned to India with an aim to regain her spot in the national women’s football team for the Asian Games in early 2018.
Last season, she was also part of the Gokulam Kerala team that won the Indian Women’s League. Chauhan now becomes the second Indian women’s footballer after Bala Devi to earn a professional contract at an overseas club.
Last year, Devi who had captained Indian women’s football team made headlines when she joined the Scottish club. As the first Asian international to join Rangers Women, she also created history by becoming the first Indian woman to score in a top-tier professional league in Europe.
