The Inca One Gold (CVE:IO) Share Price Is Down 94% So Some Shareholders Are Rather Upset

Want to participate in a short research study? Help shape the future of investing tools and you could win a $250 gift card!

Some stocks are best avoided. We don't wish catastrophic capital loss on anyone. Imagine if you held Inca One Gold Corp. (CVE:IO) for half a decade as the share price tanked 94%. And some of the more recent buyers are probably worried, too, with the stock falling 29% in the last year. The silver lining is that the stock is up 11% in about a week.

We really hope anyone holding through that price crash has a diversified portfolio. Even when you lose money, you don't have to lose the lesson.

Because Inca One Gold is loss-making, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally expect to see good revenue growth. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.

The chart below shows how revenue and earnings have changed with time, (if you click on the chart you can see the actual values).

A Different Perspective

Investors in Inca One Gold had a tough year, with a total loss of 29%, against a market gain of about 6.3%. Even the share prices of good stocks drop sometimes, but we want to see improvements in the fundamental metrics of a business, before getting too interested. Unfortunately, longer term shareholders are suffering worse, given the loss of 44% doled out over the last five years. We would want clear information suggesting the company will grow, before taking the view that the share price will stabilize. Most investors take the time to check the data on insider transactions.
