Hyundai updates '17 Tucson with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, upgraded interior

Hyundai's popular Tucson was just redesigned last year, but already the Korean automaker is enhancing the crossover's interior for 2017.

Headlining the changes is the availability of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. To get an infotainment system that more or less mirrors a mobile phone, buyers need to step all the way up to the range-topping Tucson Limited trim level, however.

That's good news for iPhone and Android-owning Tucson buyers, but it doesn't quite match Ford's plan to offer the tech on every model for 2017

Pricing for that model actually drops by $120 for the new year to $30,675 for a front wheel-drive model. Pop for the all wheel-drive Tucson Limited and the sticker price climbs to $32,070. At the bottom end of the line up, the Tucson SE front wheel-drive model holds steady at $23,595 including a mandatory $895 destination charge.

Also now available on the Tucson Limited is a 315 Watt Infinity-branded audio system with Harman Audio's Clari-Fi system, which is designed to restore sound quality on highly compressed audio (think streaming music or compressed MP3s).

Additionally, the automaker says that the Tucson Sport trim level benefits from improved material quality on its door panels, while all cloth seat-equipped Tucsons now utilize YES Essentials stain resistant fabric. The mid-levelTucson Eco and Sport models gain rear air conditioning vents integrated into their center consoles, a feature previously relegated only to the Tucson Limited.

Hyundai says that the updated 2017 Tucson is headed to dealers now.
