Home Run? Former Slugger Gary Sheffield Selling Tampa Mansion

The days of Gary Sheffield hitting home runs on the baseball diamond are over. But the former All-Star hopes to slug a round-tripper on the real estate market.

Sheffield and his wife, Deleon, have put a mansion in Tampa, FL, up for sale with a $1.8 million price tag. The 5,492-square-foot home, which has five bedrooms and six baths, is one of the larger properties in the Island Homes area—Sheffield’s hometown.

The home opens up to an outdoor courtyard with a pool and guesthouse. The backyard features a covered lanai equipped with audio/video components for ample entertainment possibilities.

Inside, you’ll find a chef’s kitchen with an island, stainless-steel appliances, and granite countertops. There’s a formal dining room, and the formal living room features a fireplace and wet bar.

The downstairs bedroom could double as a second master bedroom, but the true master suite is upstairs. The second floor also has two other bedrooms, a family room, a bonus room, and a laundry room.

Sheffield is no stranger to real estate wrangling. He owns lavish homes in California as well as Florida. In 2013, Sheffield made news when his St. Petersburg mansion was sold at auction with a starting price of $3.3 million. And in 2015, the Sheffields were sued over unpaid invoices for work performed on a 9,200-square-foot Tampa mansion.

Sheffield played for eight clubs during his time in the MLB—winning one World Series title as a member of the Florida Marlins in 1997. He was also the 1992 National League batting champion and is the first player in MLB history to make the All-Star team as a member of five different clubs.
