Home and Away faces disruption as familiar location to be demolished

Home and Away spoilers follow for Australian and UK viewers.

Home and Away may have to rethink some scenes in the near future, as a regular filming location is very likely to be taken down and rebuilt.

Australia's TV Tonight reports that a local council is going to decide this week whether they will approve plans to demolish the Palm Beach Boathouse and build a new venue in its place, a process that could take up to six months.

The location is used for the diner and Alf's bait shop in the soap, so they will have to find a way of not using those locations for half a year and, if they carry on filming at the new venue, explain why it looks so different.

Typically, soaps having to change a set means they get to play the 'Big Explosion Storyline' card, so that could be something to look forward to in the coming months.

One dramatic storyline the show is about to embark on will see a character turn up mysteriously dead, with trailers hinting as to who it could be.

For this storyline, the soap has cast military veteran Nicholas Cartwright as Senior Constable Cash Newman, who served in the Australian Army for six years and has no TV experience.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK), with first look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
