Hollyoaks' McQueens face danger over John Paul

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

The McQueen family face new danger after exposing the fake witness to George Kiss's death in Hollyoaks.

Monday's first-look episode on E4 (May 17) saw George's former partner PC Smith trapped into admitting he'd lied about witnessing John Paul committing murder.

Theresa had figured out PC Smith was lying about his statement last week, but had to get lawyer James Nightingale back on board after he promised boyfriend Ste Hay he'd drop the case for good.

"If there's a chance we can get John Paul home, we've got to take it," Theresa begged. "What if I could prove to you that Smith lied?... I've got a plan."

Theresa's plan involved back-tracking to Smith by claiming she now believed John Paul is guilty — and it actually worked. PC Smith admitted that as "the star witness in the case", he'd say "whatever he needs to make sure John Paul stays locked up".

"Don't worry. I've placed John Paul at the scene of the crime. I've even said I saw them fighting," he confided in Theresa.

When Theresa pressed him on whether he'd actually seen those things, Smith admitted: "No, but I might as well have."

That's when James leapt from the sofa on the other side of The Dog with the whole conversation recorded on his phone to boast: "The truth seems to have escaped you, PC Smith."

James turned the recording over to DS Cohen, leaving the copper no choice but to suspend PC Smith indefinitely. While the McQueens celebrated John Paul's impending release, Smith warned Cohen he was far from done with John Paul.

"You can take my badge, but they're going to pay," he warned. "I'm right about the McQueens and I'm going to prove it."
