Holiday returns and refunds policies vary, stores warn

If you are looking to return some of your Christmas gifts be sure to check the fine print before you head to the store.

Each store has different rules about when and how you can bring things back, according to Mark Fernandes of the Better Business Bureau of Mainland B.C., who warns shoppers not to wait too long.

"A lot of retailers have a return clock and it's not from when you receive the gift, but actually when it was purchased," Fernandes.

"Just go to the website of the retailer and find out what the return policies are. They will often post that information online," said Fernandes.

Best Buy spokeswoman Janine Ball says make sure you keep your receipt and all the packaging.

"It certainly helps if you have your receipt and you have all the packaging. We will do our best to look up receipts for you. That slows down the process a little bit, so have some patience," said Bell.

Cross-border shoppers should be aware return policies may not be the same on both sides of the border at the same retailers.
