High Tide's(CVE:HITI) Share Price Is Down 20% Over The Past Year.

High Tide Inc. (CVE:HITI) shareholders should be happy to see the share price up 16% in the last month. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last year have been less than pleasing. After all, the share price is down 20% in the last year, significantly under-performing the market.

View our latest analysis for High Tide

Because High Tide made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. That's because it's hard to be confident a company will be sustainable if revenue growth is negligible, and it never makes a profit.

High Tide grew its revenue by 207% over the last year. That's a strong result which is better than most other loss making companies. The share price drop of 20% over twelve months would be considered disappointing by many, so you might argue the company is getting little credit for its impressive revenue growth. On the bright side, if this company is moving profits in the right direction, top-line growth like that could be an opportunity. Our monkey brains haven't evolved to think exponentially, so humans do tend to underestimate companies that have exponential growth.

A Different Perspective

While High Tide shareholders are down 20% for the year, the market itself is up 3.1%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. It's great to see a nice little 2.8% rebound in the last three months. This could just be a bounce because the selling was too aggressive, but fingers crossed it's the start of a new trend. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. For example, we've discovered 3 warning signs for High Tide (2 are concerning!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
