Here's an Early Look at the Next Porsche MacanPorsche

The all-electric Porsche Macan is set to make its global debut on January 25, and the brand is wasting no time in building the excitement. A set of previously unseen design sketches were published by the automaker on Monday, giving us our best look yet at the newly electrified crossover’s new face.

The upcoming Macan marks the first time the brand has electrified one of its existing products, marking a huge moment in the EV transition. The truck is based on VW’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, which will also underpin vehicles like the Audi Q6 e-Tron. The automaker hasn’t shared too many specific details at this time, but we do know that the platform will be backed by a battery pack with 100 kWh of gross capacity. We’ll have to wait to learn how much of that pack is actually usable, but Porsche maintains the Macan will provide better range than the Taycan models.

Porsche has shared that at least one variant will be powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup, which will provide over 600 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. A single-motor variant driving just two wheels is also a possibility. Expect the SUV to utilize the same 800-volt architecture as the Taycan, which the Porsche says will allow the SUV to charge from 10 to 80 percent full in just over 20 minutes.

Perhaps the most surprising part of the second-generation Macan comes by way of its styling. Despite its all-new EV platform, the SUV retains much of the identity it has established over the past decade. The front end is recognizably Porsche, with the LED Matrix lighting elements from the Taycan making their way over. Another set of daytime running lights sits below the headlights in the mid-bumper. The wheel and tire combo in the sketch is a bit extreme for the production car, but they do inform us of the truck’s sporting intentions. Out back, the truck retains the full-length horizontal light bar, but it has been updated to better mirror the Taycan and 911 models.

Overall, it’s a handsome SUV that blends EV and more traditional styling cues. We don’t have to wait much longer to see just how much has been changed on the production model, but we wouldn’t expect many tweaks.
