Hawaii-Based U.S. Soldier in Custody After Murder of Woman Found Dumped in Trash Receptacle

A U.S. Army soldier is in custody in connection with the death of a 25-year-old military spouse and Army veteran.

Selena Roth, 25, was discovered Wednesday around 8 a.m. after military police conducted a welfare check requested by a family member.

According to Hawaii News Now, Roth's body was found in a trash receptacle.

She lived on Schofield Barracks, which is the home of the 25th Infantry Division and headquarters for U.S. Army Hawaii, located on Oahu.

"This is now an ongoing homicide investigation into a senseless and tragic death," Army Criminal Investigation Command spokesman Chris Grey said. "Our agents will continue to work diligently in the pursuit of justice for the victim and her loved ones."

Special agents from the US Army took the suspect into custody on Wednesday evening after questioning. The suspect was placed in pre-trial confinement.

The U.S. Army has not yet released the suspect's name or if the suspect knew the victim.

Maj. Gen. James Jarrard, commander of the 25th Infantry Division and US Army Hawaii, extended his condolences to the victim's family.

"On behalf of the Army community in Hawaii, I extend our deepest condolences to Selena's loved ones," he said. "I know many of us are still in shock. Our priority is to continue to support the investigation and to ensure Selena's family and our Army community receive the needed support and resources during this difficult time."
