Salim Merchant of popular music composer duo Salim-Sulaiman turns a year older on March 3. The ace singer and music director has been a part of the music industry for a over decade. Salim, who was born and brought up in Mumbai, mastered piano from Trinity College in London. The well-known musician considers his father Late Sadruddin Merchant as his inspiration to make good music. Sadruddin who used to lead Ismaili Scouts Orchestra in India.
Apart from singing and composing music, he has also been a judge at various music reality shows including Indian Idol Season 5 and Season 6, Indian Idol Junior Season 2 and The Voice of India.
As he turns 47 today, here is a look at some of the most melodious songs that he has sung till date:
Mar Jaavan:The song is a part of 2008 film Fashion which has been directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. The track at a point of time became synonymous to ramp walks as it is pictured on a fashion show in the film. The female part of the track has been sung by Shruti Pathak and the lyrics have been written by Irfan Siddiqui.
Shukran Allah:The track written by Niranjan Iyengar has been pictured on Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan. It is a part of 2009 crime thriller film Kurbaan. Apart from him, Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal have also lent their voice for the soulful track.
Ainvayi Ainvayi:The peppy dance track is a must in the wedding sangeet playlist. Pictured on Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma, the beats of the song will make you groove at any time of the day. The track of Band Baaja Baarat has been written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and the female vocals have been given by Sunidhi Chauhan.
Maula Mere Lele Meri Jaan:The heartbreaking melodious song from ChakDe! India can move anyone to tears. It has been filmed on legendary actor Shah Rukh Khan and female hockey players in the film. Along with Salim, Krishna has also lent his voice for the number.
Khudaya Ve:Pictured on Imran Khanand Shruti Haasan, the soulful track has won the hearts of many. It is a part of a Bollywood film titled Luck and has been written by Shabbir Ahmed.
