Last night saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, comment on a number of high profile stories during a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey (who coincidentally happens to be one of their neighbours). During the conversation, Meghan discussed everything from her mental health during pregnancy to her and Harry's secret wedding, as well as how their relationships with other royals stand now.

Speaking about the Queen specifically, it seemed Meghan had many positive things to say, adding that she and Harry last spoke to Her Majesty when Harry's grandfather, the Queen's husband, Prince Philip, was admitted to hospital.

"This morning, I woke up earlier than H, and saw a note from someone on our team in the UK saying that the Duke of Edinburgh had gone to the hospital," Meghan shared, according to a report from Town & Country. "But I just picked up the phone and I called the Queen just to check in... That’s what we do, being able to default... to not having to every moment go, 'Is that appropriate?'"

However, given that the interview was pre-recorded (and Philip was first taken to hospital the 17th of February), it's very possible that the Sussexes have spoken to the Queen since then, making that one of the last conversations they had, rather than the last.

During the chat with Oprah, Meghan also recalled the very first time she met the Queen, and said it was while having lunch at the Royal Lodge (where Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson reside) with Harry, when they heard the she was attending a nearby church service and would drop in after. It was at this point that the Duke asked the Duchess if she knew how to curtsey, which she was surprised at.

"I thought genuinely that was what happens outside, I thought that was part of the fanfare. I didn't think that was what happens inside," Meghan explained to Oprah. "And I said, 'But it’s your grandmother?' and he said, 'It’s the Queen'." The Duchess added that Harry and Fergie quickly gave her a run-through of what to do and after that, she and the Queen "just sat there and we chatted and it was lovely and easy."

Prince Harry also recently discussed his relationship with the Queen during an interview with friend James Corden, for The Late, Late Show. He shared that Her Majesty gifted he and Meghan's son, Archie, a waffle maker for Christmas and that he speaks with her and Philip over Zoom.

Prince Philip is said to be recovering well following a "successful procedure" for a pre-existing heart condition.

The Palace are yet to comment on any of the claims made during the interview.

CBS Presents Oprah with Meghan and Harry will air on ITV at 9pm tonight and on ITV Hub, Courtesy of Harpo Productions/CBS.
