Hèrmes' $45 Nail Polish Is Worth It, and I Have the Photo Receipts

I'm a millennial who loves avocado toast, so that apparently means I'll probably never save enough to own a house, a car, let alone invest in classic accessories like a Hèrmes Birkin or Enamel Bracelet.

However, the French fashion house's debut nail polish collection is so luxurious, wearing one is like having the Birkin of manicures. When developing the 24 shades in the collection, Hèrmes looked to the colors of its Enamel Bracelets for inspiration. The formula is comprised of 70% natural origin and offers a high-pigment, lacquer finish that stays shiny for days.

And like the Hèrmes refillable lipstick tubes, the bottles are designed by Pierre Hardy and feature a chunky white and hold graphic striped brush. Speaking of the brush, its rounded tip is designed to coat the nail in a single swipe.

Some of the shades correspond with the brand's lipsticks, including Rouge H, the shade I tested at an event Hèrmes held for beauty editors ahead of the polish collection's launch on Oct. 15.

Rouge H is a very dark red with a tint of brown that almost makes it burgundy. The color was originally developed by the French fashion house in 1925 for its leather goods, and is also one of its core lipstick shades.

If I'm touting a nail polish as being equivalent to a luxury handbag, you may have guessed it has a hefty price tag. Hèrmes Le Mains Hèrmes Nail Enamel is $45 each, but is absolutely worth treating yourself because this is one designer nail polish that actually performs. Plus, you'll want to keep the bottle on display on top of your vanity.

My nails were painted with two coats of Rouge H for extra impact, although one coat did provide ample coverage. The technician sealed it with the brand's top coat, which also speeds up drying time and boosts shine. I felt like Olivia Rodrigo with my deep red nails: moody, angsty, yet not too intimidating.

And my manicure stayed chip-free and shiny for over a week. Below, the photo on the left was taken right after I got my nails done, while the second is exactly one week later. Aside from the slightest chip on my index finger you have to zoom in on to see, my nails are in pristine condition.

If only my hand modeling skills could do this polish real justice.

The Splurge is our recurring column dedicated to expensive beauty products that are worth it. This week, why we're rebuying Hèrmes Les Mains Hèrmes Nail Enamel despite the $45 price tag.
