If you haven’t discovered the The Great British Bake Off (it’s on Netflix under the title The Great British Baking Show, so really, there is no excuse) yet, it’s pretty much the best reality TV that’s out there. Delicious sweet treats, a hearty competition, and British accents? Yes, that’s what it is.

Nadiya Hussain recently won the sixth series of the show, and she gave an exclusive interview about motherhood with Essentials magazine.

(Incidentally, Hussain was once commissioned by Buckingham Palace to bake an orange buttercream cake for Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday, so she’s got some extra royal cred for that.)

Hussain is a mother of three children, and used to stay at home with them full-time. In the interview, she raised awareness about the stigma attached to being a stay-at-home mom.

“Sometimes I think people forget that what I had was a luxury. There are so many women out there who would love to stay at home with their children, but can’t. Yes, I sacrificed my career for that time, but it was a choice I made and it was worth it.”

Her career has been very interesting, and full of ups and downs that we all pretty much experience at one point or another. During the time that Hussain was a homemaker, she lost some confidence and started to wonder what she’d do when the children were all at school and didn’t need her help.

Her husband Abdul inspired her to regain her confidence, and so Hussain filled in an application for The Great British Bake Off.

Audiences immediately fell in love with Hussain, because her personality (and, of course, her baking!) is so delicious. And Hussain’s message is loud and clear: women can do anything they set their minds to!

Whether your dream is to be a full-time stay-at-home mom, or to pursue baking on an international stage, everything is very possible.

All you need is CONFIDENCE. And a good bake.
