‘Gossip Girl’ Reboot Premiere Episode to Air on CW After HBO Max Debut

The premiere episode of the “Gossip Girl” reboot will air on The CW after it debuts on HBO Max.

The follow-up to the beloved series, which originally aired on The CW from 2007-2012, will become available on HBO Max on July 8. On July 9, The CW will air the first episode from 8-9:30 p.m. ET/PT. The episode will then be available to stream on The CW’s free digital platforms. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, there are no plans at present for the broadcaster to air more than just the first episode.

The new “Gossip Girl” picks up with a new group of students on Manhattan’s Upper East Side as they explore how much the world has changed since the events of the original show. It stars Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak and Savannah Lee Smith. The series is based on the bestselling novels by Cecily von Ziegesar and the original show, developed by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

Joshua Safran, a writer and executive producer on the original series, developed the new version and serves as executive producer and showrunner via Random Acts. Schwartz and Savage also executive produce under their Fake Empire banner along with Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo of Alloy Entertainment. Lis Rowinski of Fake Empire serves as co-executive producer. Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios Produce.
