GMC updates Canyon lineup with new V-6, additional trim levels
GMC's successful re-entry into the midsize pickup market has been expanded for 2017. A new 3.6-liter V-6 replaces last year's same size unit, while a pair of trim package offer buyers even more choices than before.
First, let's talk about the new V-6. It's mated exclusively to an 8-speed automatic that replaces last year's 6-speed unit. Although it shares its size with the 2016's engine, the new 3.6 adds 3 horsepower (for a total of 308) and 6 pound-feet of torque (for a total of 275). The new V-6 is shared with a host of other GM products and it boasts cylinder deactivation that allows it to operate as a V-4 under light load situations to save fuel.

But fuel is one thing GMC hasn't yet mentioned, and we'll have to wait until closer to the 2017 Canyon's arrival in dealerships during the fourth quarter of the year to find out the final fuel consumption figures.
Canyon Denali, Canyon All Terrain X
GMC is expanding its existing lineup of fleet-oriented SL, base, SLE, and SLT trim with a new-range-topping Denali and a more off road-oriented All Terrain X.
The Denali builds on the SLT with 20-inch alloy wheels, tubular side steps, and a spray-on bed liner outside. Inside, things get more lavish with standard heated and air conditioned bucket seats wrapped in leather, a heated steering wheel, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, navigation, and a Bose audio system. Denali touches include sill plates and floor mats.

The All Terrain X, meanwhile, is positioned as an optional package for the SLE trim level. All Terrain X Canyons ride on Goodyear Duratrac all-terrain tires and feature a specially-tuned suspension, a transfer case skid plate, hill descent control, heated front seats, red seat stitching, and a number of cosmetic touches. GMC says it will offer the All Terrain X package with either the 2.8-liter turbodiesel or the 3.6-liter V-6.
