GMC Expands 2017 Canyon Midsize Pickup Lineup

GMC, General Motors’ all-truck brand, is adding two trim levels to its 2017 Canyon midsize pickup truck lineup along with a new V-6 engine system and some new premium features. The Canyon Denali with chrome exterior details and special wheels is the first new trim, while an All Terrain X package will feature special Goodyear all-terrain tires and all-weather floor liners. The new 2017 Canyon trucks will reach dealerships in the fourth quarter.

The GMC Canyon midsize pickup, a sibling to the Chevrolet Colorado, is differentiated as a premium midsize truck. New features that will be available across the Canyon lineup will include a new IntelliLink radio with 7-in. touch screen, a standard programmable teen driver feature, available heated steering wheel, and more exterior paint colors: Dark Slate Metallic, Mineral Metallic, and Red Quartz Metallic.

The Canyon Denali features a signature chrome grille and Denali-specific 20-in. aluminum wheels with painted accents. A chrome tube assist step, polished exhaust tips, and spray-on bedliner complete outside details, while inside the Jet Black interior features partial leather, heated and ventilated seats with special Denali instrument panel, console trim, and floor mats. Also standard are navigation with 8-in. screen, Bose premium sound system, and forward-collision warning plus lane-departure warning systems.

GMC adds more off-road features to the All Terrain X package, which is built on the SLE trim level Canyon with body-color grille surround and rear step bumper. Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires provide off-road capability. Off-road suspension and a transfer case shield are also included in the package along with hill-descent control. Step bars and remote start are also among features on this rugged midsize pickup trim. The All-Terrain X requires the new 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 308 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque with a new 8-speed automatic transmission that accelerates with smaller “steps” between gears, GMC says. A Duramax 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine is available. The 2017 Canyon lineup’s new powertrain will support trailering 7,000 lbs. and an additional 700 lbs. with the diesel, according to the automaker.
