GM Product Chief Mark Reuss To Pace 2015 IndyCar Detroit Grand Prix In A Corvette Z06

Motor Authority

IndyCar heads to Detroit this weekend for the ‘Chevrolet Dual in Detroit’ hosted on the Belle Isle Park road course, and none other than General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] product chief Mark Reuss will be handling pacing duties. Last year he was behind the wheel of a Corvette Stingray but this year he’ll be in a new Corvette Z06.

It’s the same Arctic White car with an Adrenaline Red interior that NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon used to pace last weekend’s Indianapolis 500 won by Team Penske driver Juan Pablo Montoya. It’s identical to the Corvette Z06 you’ll find at your local Chevy dealer apart from the special graphics and safety strobe lights.

As for this weekend’s Chevrolet Dual in Detroit, the first race will be at 3:30 p.m. local time on Saturday and the second race will be at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Ruess, a huge motorsport fan, is a regular at the event.

“I’m thrilled to drive the Corvette Z06 pace car at this year’s Grand Prix,” Reuss said in a statement. “Growing up here and having the opportunity to help bring this great event to racing fans in Detroit has been very exciting, and the privilege of driving the pace car makes it even more special for me."

Currently leading the 2015 IndyCar Drivers’ Championship is Juan Pablo Montoya, who sits on 272 points. In second is fellow Team Penske driver Will Power with 247 points, and in third is Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon with 211 points.
