Gigi Hadid Clapped Back at People Who Said She Didn’t Look Pregnant
Fans were obviously stoked when Gigi Hadid confirmed her pregnancy back in May, sharing that she was expecting her first child with boyfriend Zayn Malik later this year. But the first-time mom-to-be hasn’t been sharing much about her pregnancy on social media, and in a new Instagram Live session, she explained why she’s keeping things low-key.
The supermodel went live on Instagram on Wednesday, July 15th, addressing commentary that she “didn’t look pregnant” the last time she went live. In a clip captured by a fan account, Hadid showed off her stomach, saying, “Everyone’s like, ‘Oh, you didn’t look pregnant in your jumpsuit on your last Live.’ That’s because this way [facing front] I’m gonna look normally how I look in this [outfit],” she explained. “The reason I said it’s a different story is, like, there’s my belly, y’all. Like, it’s there. From the front, it’s different, you know what I mean?”
This isn’t the first time Hadid has had to discuss the issue. On July 4th, the 25-year-old responded to a since-deleted tweet from British Vogue that seemingly asked if she was wearing a baggy jumpsuit to hide or “disguise” her pregnant body. And her response should serve as a friendly reminder that it’s never cool to comment on someone’s body, especially when they’re pregnant.

Hadid responded to the now-deleted tweet, writing, “I said in a baggy jumpsuit the front and side views are visually different stories—not that that was intentional or I was trying to hide anything. Will be proud and happy to share ‘insight’ when I feel like it, thanks.”
In a second tweet, she added, “For now I am proudly experiencing and sharing this time with my family and loved ones.”

Echoing similar sentiments in her Live session, Hadid expressed that she’s “so grateful for the positive comments and the questions and want you to know that we’re all good and safe," and adding that, “Everything’s going great and I love you guys."
"Obviously, I think a lot of people are confused why I’m not sharing more, but, like, I’m pregnant through a pandemic," she continued.
"Obviously, my pregnancy is not the most important thing going on in the world.”
In light of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the continuing Black Lives Matter protests fighting for racial justice in the US, the model said she wasn't focusing her social media presence on herself and her pregnancy.
"That's a reason that I felt that it's not really something that I need to share apart from with my family and friends. Obviously, a lot of people have lost lives due to coronavirus that was in the beginning of quarantine and [is] still happening. And then we moved, obviously, into the reemergence of the BLM [Black Lives Matter] movement, and I thought that our presence on social media should be used for that.”

Hadid doesn’t owe anyone an explanation as to why she’s sharing (or not sharing) certain details, and she certainly doesn’t need to address commentary on her body. She did share that she’s been documenting her pregnancy and sharing photos with her friends and family, adding, “I just am not rushed to do it, and I feel like right now I just want to experience it…I just don’t want to worry about waking up every day during my pregnancy and, like, worry about having to look cute or post something.”

We’re happy to hear that she’s enjoying this time and hope that she isn’t bothered by people in the comments section. Fans and followers are not owed anything from her, even if their intentions are well-meaning.
