Those that prefer their couture ultra feminine and frilly will delight in Giambattista Valli’s latest offering.

The Italian designer, whose name has become synonymous with frothy, fairy tale fancies, brought the first day of a digital Paris Couture week to a flower-filled close with a spring/ summer 2021 collection, released via digital film, of OTT tumbling tulle creations.

Inspired by the gardens of the Italian Riviera, the collection catered to the couture crowd’s summer wardrobe with rose-embellished georgette gowns, cascades of taffeta and layers romantic ruffles in a palette of blushing pinks. Even the towering bouffants that accompanied every look were woven with flowers and bows.

A sixties influence came via bell sleeves, golden polka dots, floor length capes and on a white flower-embellished baby pink shift mini dress with long mesh train, that was crying to be taken to a glitzy post-pandemic party.

Elsewhere graphic chess prints and denim canvas trousers were paired with trimmed bouclé ensembles, for a more wearable wardrobe option.

On the digital-only schedule this afternoon come presentations from Chanel and Valentino and a first look at ex-Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz’s new label AZ Factory.
