We’ve got our first look at a new ghost from Ghostbusters: Afterlife — the six-armed Muncher.

As noted by fan outlet Ghostbusters News, the gooey blue creature made its debut in a segment on the Spanish incarnation of MasterChef Junior.

Fans first spotted an apparently new ghost in one of the teaser trailers for the movie, but now Muncher has a name and fans know exactly what he will look like.

Naturally, social media was quick to come through with a selection of memes.

A direct sequel to the 1989 follow-up Ghostbusters II — ignoring Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot — the movie sees Jason Reitman step into the director’s chair.

The filmmaker’s father, Ivan Reitman, was the man behind the camera for the first two films back in the 1980s.

The younger Reitman said showing his father the new movie was “one of the great moments of my life” and that Ivan cried when he watched the film.

Afterlife will reunite the surviving members of the original Ghostbusters film, including Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts.

The film follows Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace as kids who discover their family has links to the original Ghostbusters when there’s something strange in their neighbourhood. If only there were a song about that.

Carrie Coon plays the kids’ single mother, with Paul Rudd and JK Simmons also in the cast.

Ernie Hudson said in September that fans will find everything they want in the new movie, praising Reitman and Gil Kenan’s script.

He added: “It's really in line with what the fans have been hoping for, and it really ties into the first two movies.”

Ghostbusters: Afterlife has seen its release date shunted again as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, along with the majority of Sony’s upcoming theatrical slate.

The movie is now due to arrive in cinemas on 11 November, complete with Muncher in his six-armed glory.
