General Motors (GM) Stock Moves -0.03%: What You Should Know

General Motors (GM) closed at $35.69 in the latest trading session, marking a -0.03% move from the prior day. This move was narrower than the S&P 500's daily loss of 1.97%. At the same time, the Dow lost 2.32%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq lost 2.78%.

Prior to today's trading, shares of the automaker had gained 10.49% over the past month. This has outpaced the Auto-Tires-Trucks sector's loss of 0.52% and the S&P 500's loss of 3.33% in that time.

Investors will be hoping for strength from GM as it approaches its next earnings release, which is expected to be February 5, 2019. In that report, analysts expect GM to post earnings of $1.21 per share. This would mark a year-over-year decline of 26.67%. Meanwhile, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenue is projecting net sales of $36.72 billion, down 2.65% from the year-ago period.

Looking at the full year, our Zacks Consensus Estimates suggest analysts are expecting earnings of $6.17 per share and revenue of $146.36 billion. These totals would mark changes of -6.8% and -2.11%, respectively, from last year.

It is also important to note the recent changes to analyst estimates for GM. Recent revisions tend to reflect the latest near-term business trends. With this in mind, we can consider positive estimate revisions a sign of optimism about the company's business outlook.
