Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Sell Their Malibu Getaway

Eagle-eyed real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak was the first to whisper in our eager ear that Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood sold their fairly unassuming beach getaway in Malibu in an off-market deal for $7 million. The buyer, according to property records, is internet entrepreneur Adam Bernhard, who additionally owns a neighboring property he scooped up early this summer for about $3.3 million. Bernhard previously owned a stunning estate in Bel-Air bought from Meg Ryan in 2012 for $11.12 million and sold in July of this year for $18.5 million to “Saw” and “Aquaman” director James Wan.

The Malibu property was acquired by the dyed-in-denim Country music royals in June 2008 for bit less than $5 million, and first turned up for sale more than two years ago at $7.5 million. Online marketing materials show the single-story, contemporary-ranch-style residence, in a small and exclusive gated enclave, measures in at a bit more than 4,200 square feet with four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. The open plan includes a combination living and dining room with a corner fireplace and numerous sets of French doors to the backyard, an up-to-date kitchen with skylights and marble countertops, and a den/library where floor-to-ceiling bookshelves flank a white-brick fireplace.

Somewhat unusually, the backyard doesn’t have a swimming pool, but does provide a deep loggia for shaded lounging, an outdoor fireplace, a flat patch of grass, and a half-court basketball court. A wooden staircase shared by a handful of other homes in the enclave — a few of which are owned by tennis great John McEnroe and venture capitalist Vivi Nevo — provides access to the beach.

Yearwood and Brooks continue to own an 18,000-square-foot mansion on around 2,000 rural acres outside of Tulsa, Okla., as well as a 6,700-square-foot home on almost 4.5 acres in Brentwood, Tenn., that Yearwood bought before they were married. They also maintain an approximately 300-acre country compound about a dozen miles north of downtown Nashville that Brooks amassed in 10 or more transactions throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.
