Gamecocks defensive back named first-team All-SEC by coaches. Here’s the full list

Butch Dill/AP

South Carolina football’s Jaylan Foster has earned postseason recognition from SEC coaches.

Foster, tied for the nation’s lead in interceptions for the 2021 regular season, was named first-team All-SEC on Wednesday.

The former walk-on defensive back from Duncan, S.C. came up with five interceptions in 2021, the most for a Gamecock defender since 2004. He lead the Gamecocks this year with 90 tackles, 4.0 for loss, two sacks, two pass break-ups and two forced fumbles.

The senior was also selected to USA Today’s All-SEC first team and was also a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the nation’s best defensive back.

Foster was the only Gamecock selected to either postseason All-SEC first or second teams, as voted by league coaches.
