Earnings Highlights and Summary

For the three months ended September 30, 2017, Carlyle Group's total revenues increased 5.4% to $639.9 million from $607.3 million in Q3 FY16. The Company's total revenue numbers were below analysts' expectations of $680.4 million.

During Q3 FY17, the Company's distributable earnings increased 13.9% to $259.9 million from $228.2 million in the same period of last year. For the reported quarter, the Company's realized net performance fees increased 16.4% to $216.9 million from $186.3 million in Q3 FY16.

For the reported quarter, Carlyle Group's net income increased to $44.6 million from $0.8 million in Q3 FY16. During Q3 FY17, the Company's diluted EPS was positive $0.43 versus negative $0.02 in the comparable period of last year. For the reported quarter, the Company's economic net income, after taxes, increased 175.9% to $192.3 million from $69.7 million in Q3 FY16. Segment Details

Corporate Private Equity (CPE) - During Q3 FY17, Carlyle Group's Corporate Private Equity segment's total revenue decreased 11.3% to $293.4 million from $330.8 million in the corresponding period of last year. For the reported quarter, the segment's economic net income increased 46% to $92 million from $63 million Q3 FY16. For the reported quarter, the segment's net realized performance fees increased 17.9% to $198 million from $168 million in Q3 FY16. For the reported quarter, the segment's distributable earnings decreased 0.9% to $207 million from $209 million in Q3 FY16. For the reported quarter, the segment's total assets under management increased 2% to $55.7 billion from $54.6 billion in Q3 FY16.

Real Assets - During Q3 FY17, Carlyle Group's Real Assets segment's total revenue increased 42% to $103.2 million from $72.7 million in the same period of last year. For the reported quarter, the segment's economic net income increased 200% to $8 million from $4 million in Q3 FY16. For the reported quarter, the segment's net realized performance fees were at par with the $11 million recorded in Q3 FY16. For the reported quarter, the segment's distributable earnings were negative $41 million compared to positive $10 million in Q3 FY16. For the reported quarter, the segment's total assets under management increased to $39.8 billion from $35.7 billion in Q3 FY16.

Global Market Strategies (GMS) - During Q3 FY17, Carlyle Group's Global Market Strategies segment's total revenue increased 1.4% to $73.1 million from $72.1 million in the comparable period of last year. For the reported quarter, the segment's economic net income was positive $88 million compared to negative $11 million in Q3 FY16. For the reported quarter, the segment's net realized performance fees were at par with the $8 million recorded in Q3 FY16. Investment Solutions - During Q3 FY17, Carlyle Group's Investment Solutions segment's total revenue increased 21.8% to $77.8 million from $63.9 million in the corresponding period of last year. For the reported quarter, the segment's economic net income was positive $15 million compared to negative $3 million in Q3 FY16. For the reported quarter, the segment's distributable earnings were at par with the $6 million recorded in Q3 FY16. For the reported quarter, the segment's total assets under management increased 5.1% to $47 billion from $44.7 billion in Q3 FY16.

Balance Sheet

As on September 30, 2017, Carlyle Group's cash and cash equivalents and corporate treasury investments were $1.5 billion.

During Q3 FY17, Carlyle Group's total assets under management increased 3% to $174.4 billion from $169.1 billion in the second quarter of 2017, due to capital raised across all segments, notably in Real Assets, GMS, and Investment Solutions.
