A free hotel stay with your long airport layover? Yes please!
It’s undoubtedly the worst part of international travel: the hours spent waiting in the airport for your next flight.
Luckily, some airlines are coming to the rescue, and will offer eligible passengers free hotel accommodation to help ease the pain of a hideously long wait in transit.
In most cases, airlines won’t advertise the perk, instead only reaching out to those who are eligible for the stay.

Usually, the long layover must be something travellers can’t choose - that is, the hours-long wait at the airport must be the only option for your travel itinerary. Sometimes, the free accommodation offer will only be available to certain fares, like Business Class.
To help you out, we've rounded up a list of airlines who are most likely to hook you up the next time you’ve got a half-day to kill at an airport.
Air Canada
For connections over 6 hours, Air Canada will provide business class, premium economy and Latitude fares with one-night hotel accommodation.
China Eastern Airlines
As of February 2015, passengers who purchase their tickets from the official website and have a next-day connection from Shanghai, Kunming and Xi’an may enjoy a complimentary night in a transit hotel.
China Southern Airlines
International travellers with a layover between 8 - 48 hours are treated to a hotel stay.
Emirates
The airline offers economy passengers with an 8-24 hour layover, and first/business class passengers with a 6-24 hour layover, "accommodation, meals, ground transportation and visa costs."
Etihad Airways
Etihad actually encourages travellers to spend some extra time in Abu Dhabi, and offers a free night at a hotel through one of its stopover packages.
Malaysia Airlines
The airline offers travellers flying certain international routes the choice to stop over in Kuala Lumpur and a free night in a hotel.
Sri Lankan Airlines
Flyers who have a waiting time between 8 and 24 hours in Colombo are given a hotel stay, as well as airport transfers and meals.
Turkish Airlines
Up to two free nights at a hotel are offered for economy flyers with a layover of more than 10 hours, or 7 hours for business class passengers.
