Ford Adds New Sport Appearance Package for Explorer XLT

This week at the Chicago Auto Show, Ford Motor officials announced the addition of a new sport appearance package for the 2017 Explorer XLT trim level. The equipment package offers what Ford describes as a more individual, aggressive, active look with bold earth-colored features at a price point that is much less than opting for the Explorer Sport variant.

The new package comes with sporty exterior dark accents that include 20-in. Magnetic Gray wheels, matching gray grille, ebony body-side cladding, black roof rack, as well as Magnetic Gray mirror caps and rear applique. A special Explorer hood badge is also included with the package.

Interior enhancements continue the sporty gray theme and feature Dark Earth Gray front seats with leather bolsters and suede inserts and door panels. Umber-colored stitching adds a bold contrast. The look is finished with floor mats with the Explorer logo.

Ford officials also said that a Sport Appearance package will be available this spring for the 2017 Escape SE and Titanium trim levels. Features will include 19-in. ebony aluminum wheels, high-gloss upper grille, black accented molding and front fenders, plus part-leather seats with contrast stitching.

The Ford Explorer was the best-selling midsize SUV in the U.S. market in 2015 and in January 2016, according to sales analysis by J.D. Power and auto forecasting partner LMC Automotive.
