Fed in spotlight after jobs report whiff

Despite a jobs report whiff stocks rebound as oil pushes higher. With the Fed potentially on hold, will this bounce carry into next week? Plus - is a June rate hike off the table? Wall Street is betting on it. And - Donald Trump's in control, and he's touting one proposal that has the market spooked. Catch The Final Round at 4p ET with Editor-in-Chief Andy Serwer, markets correspondent Nicole Sinclair and columnist Rick Newman.

Winners and losers

Stocks slipping in today's trading include drugmaker Endo International on weak guidance, shares of Jack Dorsey's Square tumbling on a profit miss, and JC Penney - the department store sliding on reports it had an 'expense challenge' for the month of April, and had to cut jobs, freeze overtime, and limit executive expenses.

Stocks finishing the week on a high note include Herbalife on news it is at an "advanced stage" in settling claims with the FTC, Yelp getting 5 star reviews from investors after reporting a surprise profit, and Activision Blizzard - the Call of Duty: Black Ops video game-maker shooting higher after an earnings beat and upbeat guidance on game sales.

Looking ahead

  • We'll get more Fed Speakers throughout the week with Charles Evans, Neel Kashkari, Eric Rosengren, and Esther George all making potentially market moving comments.

  • On Wednesday we'll get another jolt ot the energy trade with EIA's crude inventory report. Last week we saw yet another build in supplies, hitting 2.8 million barrels.

  • And on Friday we'll get producer prices for April. The core reading, minus food and energy, only saw a 1% change year over year in the prior report.
