The FCC Just Gave RIM's New BlackBerrys The Thumbs Up

The FCC has approved a RIM device that runs on AT&T's network.

The filing, which was discovered by Engadget, approves a BlackBerry that runs on the same type of network AT&T uses for its 4G LTE devices. Another filing shows a second mystery BlackBerry device with FCC approval, but there are very few specifics.

Either way, it appears RIM is clearing the final hurdles for its new BlackBerry phones to launch early next year as the company promised.

Those phones will run a new mobile operating system called BlackBerry 10. So far, we've seen several leaked photos of what the new BlackBerrys will look like. There's a touchscreen-only model called the BlackBerry Z10. There's also a model with a keyboard.

RIM is holding a big press event on Jan. 30 to unveil the devices, so we'll have all the final details then.
