Favourable Signals For Northland Power: Numerous Insiders Acquired Stock

When a single insider purchases stock, it is typically not a major deal. However, when multiple insiders purchase stock, like in Northland Power Inc.'s (TSE:NPI) instance, it's good news for shareholders.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Northland Power Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The President & CEO Mike Crawley made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$443k worth of shares at a price of CA$22.17 each. That means that even when the share price was higher than CA$20.63 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.
