A farmer-owned co-op just bought stores in Meridian and Nampa. What it plans for them

A century-old farmer-owned cooperative just acquired its first retail stores in the Boise area.

Valley Wide Cooperative says it purchased the two Legacy Feed & Fuel stores in Meridian and Nampa. The stores sell farm equipment, power tools, gardening supplies, livestock feed and fuel.

Valley Wide, based in Nampa, has over 100 locations across Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming, with most in southern Idaho and eastern Washington. Founded in 1920, the co-op says it already served Treasure Valley farmers’ propane, agronomy and refined-fuel needs.

“The addition of farm stores marks an exciting chapter for us,” Valley Wide Cooperative CEO Dave Holtom said in a news release. “They are a testament to our commitment to providing our customers with a complete range of services and products in one convenient location.”

Valley Wide plans to remodel both stores by next spring and expand its selection of products from major brands.

The Meridian store, at 3100 S. Meridian Road, has been in business for over 15 years. The Nampa store opened in 2018 at 9065 Booker Lane. The stores were owned by Simon Vander Woude, the Idaho Press previously reported.

A spokesperson for Valley Wide said by phone that all of Legacy’s employees were given the option to continue their employment under the cooperative. Most plan to stay.

The spokesperson could not say how many employees work at the stores. Valley Wide is hiring.
