How To Find Out Who Facebook Thinks Your Best Friends Are

Facebook has never revealed the exact formula it uses to determine who your best friends are—and of course, it's changed over time.

But hacker Jacob Mulligan has found a way to figure out who Facebook thinks you're closest to.

As Mulligan writes, Facebook likely does this by analyzing recent social actions, like writing on a friend's Timeline, or liking a friend's post or photo.

Some Quora users speculate that it might have to do with who you chat or message with the most.

Here's how to see the list and get some insight are:

  • Go to your profile, right-click anywhere on the page, and hit "View Page Source."

  • Use the keyboard shortcut Cmd + F to search the HTML source code for " OrderedFriendsListInitialData"

  • Highlight and copy all of the numbers after the first quotation mark and before the last one.

  • Paste those numbers into the text box at Mulligan's page about the list to see your prioritzed list of friends on Facebook.
