Evan Ellingson Cause of Death Revealed

The sudden death last month of CSI: Miami and 24 actor Evan Ellingson now has an official explanation.

Ellingson died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday. He was found dead at a sober living home on Nov. 5 at the age of 35. The actor had reportedly struggled with drugs in the past, but was living there while in recovery.

He had stepped away from Hollywood after 2010, but Ellingson had a recurring role on CSI: Miami, playing Kyle Harmon, the son of David Caruso’s Lt. Horatio Caine. He debuted as Kyle in the Season 6 premiere and appeared in a total of 18 episodes.

In Season 6 of 24, Ellingson played Josh Bauer, the nephew of Jack Bauer, who was caught in the crossfire of the season’s nefarious family drama. His character ultimately survived his grandfather’s evil plan, appearing in a total of 10 episodes.

Ellingson’s other TV credits include a starring role in ABC’s 2004 sitcom Complete Savages, in addition to playing the 10-year-old version of the titular character in 2001’s Titus. He also appeared on Bones, Mad TV, State of Mind and General Hospital. On the film side of things, he starred as Cameron Diaz’s teen son in the 2009 movie My Sister’s Keeper.
