Euphoria's Hunter Schafer has opened up about the "special" episode exploring her experiences as a trans woman.

Speaking to NME, Schafer teased what fans can expect from the second instalment of the two-part special 'F*** Anyone Who's Not A Sea Blob', which airs tomorrow (January 24).

In addition to playing Jules, the love interest of Zendaya's Rue, Schafer also co-wrote the episode with Sam Levinson, and explained what it was like to put so much of herself into her character.

"This was genuinely the most cathartic artistic experience I’ve ever had," she said. "It was really special, being able to put that much of yourself into one singular product.

The instalment will explore Jules' experiences as a trans woman, most of which is inspired by a poem Schafer wrote after leaving high school.

"It was about this strange spiral I was having about hormone therapy and making an analogy between learning how to find beauty within yourself,” she said.

"Like, rather than wanting to be as beautiful as another cis woman, wanting to be as beautiful as something even grander, like the ocean."

The first instalment of the two-part special, titled 'Trouble Don't Last Always', saw recovering drug addict Rue talking through her relationship issues with her mentor Ali (Colman Domingo) after she decided not to leave town with Jules at the end of season one, which prompted her to relapse.

Part two will show the events from Jules' perspective after she left Rue behind, and it looks as though she's not coping well with their separation, either.

Euphoria airs on HBO in the US and on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
