Energy cuts Canada April inflation to 0.8 pct, lowest since 2013

Canada's annual inflation rate fell to 0.8 percent in April, below the Bank of Canada's target range of 1 to 3 percent and the lowest level since October 2013, from 1.2 percent in March, Statistics Canada data showed on Friday. Cheap energy was the main cause. Core inflation fell to 2.3 percent from 2.4 percent. The median prediction of analysts surveyed by Reuters was for a monthly increase of 0.1 percent in the consumer price index and annual inflation of 1.0 percent in April. They forecast core inflation of 0.2 percent on the month and 2.4 percent in the year.
