If you receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), you might wonder if you can pay for items at your local drugstore with that money. The answer is yes, but only certain items are eligible.

Items that you won’t be able to buy with your SNAP benefits include vitamins, medicines and supplements. Non-food items such as paper towels, napkins, toilet paper, cleaning products, office supplies, cosmetics and hygiene items are not eligible either. You also won’t be able to buy beer, wine, cigarettes or tobacco.

However, items that you might find at a drugstore that are eligible for SNAP payments include dairy products, bread, cereal, snack foods and non-alcoholic beverages. Here are three major drugstore chains that are accepting SNAP payments.

CVS

At over 9,000 CVS stores, you can pay for SNAP-eligible items with your Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, including meal essentials, healthy snacks and various beverages. However, you will not be able to order and pay for SNAP-eligible items online at CVS with your EBT card at this time.

Walgreens

The same goes for Walgreens. You can visit a Walgreens location and pay for SNAP-eligible items with your EBT card, but you won’t be able to order and pay for items online with your benefits at this time. However, not all Walgreens’ locations accept SNAP for payment. Call ahead to confirm.

Rite Aid

Rite Aid is another drugstore where you can use your EBT card to pay for SNAP-approved items. However, like CVS and Walgreens, Rite Aid does not accept SNAP payments online. Also, Rite Aid Customer Care suggests that you call ahead to the store location you wish to visit to find out whether that particular location accepts SNAP EBT.
