Driver busted for false plates, $22K in outstanding fines

Patrol officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary charged a driver with possession of stolen property and breach of court orders following a routine traffic stop in Mount Pearl around 3:00 p.m., Wednesday.

The RNC said the man, 58, owed in excess of $22,000 in outstanding fines.

The driver was also issued tickets for operating a vehicle without a driver's license, operating an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle without valid insurance, operating a vehicle with a false plate attached and failing to transfer ownership.

The man was arrested and held pending a court appearance.
