Donald Trump ‘set to announce 100 pardons and commutations’ on final day in White House

Donald Trump is preparing more than 100 pardons and commutations on his last full day in the White House, according to reports.

Mr Trump, who has already issued two waves of pardons in the past month, met advisers on Sunday to finalise a list of more than 100 pardons and commutations to be announced on Tuesday, according to US media.

CNN reported that the final list is expected to include a mixture of criminal justice reformers with others being granted to political allies.

Dr Salomon Melgen, a prominent eye doctor from Palm Beach who is in prison after being convicted on dozens of counts of health care fraud, is expected to be on the clemency list, it said.

CNN added that the list will also include "high-profile rappers". It has previously been reported that Mr Trump is considering a pardon for rapper Lil Wayne, who is facing up to ten years in prison after a gold-plated handgun was found in his luggage at Miami airport.

The rapper shocked fans when he appeared to endorse Mr Trump in October last year, tweeting a picture of himself smiling with the president and highlighting what he was doing on criminal reform. Another rapper said to be in the running for a pardon is Kodak Black, another Trump supporter, who is serving time on gun charges.

However it is thought the US President has opted not to issue a pardon for himself - at least not yet anyway. He also reportedly does not plan to issue preemptive pardons for members of his family, another subject he has discussed privately with advisers.

Mr Trump was impeached by the Democratic-led House of Representatives last week on charges of inciting the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6 by pro-Trump protesters.
