Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Could Be Here Soon

From Car and Driver

  • We've spied what we suspect to be the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye.

  • We say this because we believe the bump in the covered-up hood is there to make room for the larger, 2.7-liter supercharger.

  • Just like the Challenger version, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye is expected to produce 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque.

It has been almost two years since the Dodge gave the 797-hp Redeye treatment to the Challenger SRT Hellcat. But Dodge left out the Charger, which also comes in 707-hp Hellcat guise but hasn't yet received the extra 90 ponies. Well, the Charger's FOMO might be going away soon because we've spied some widebody Chargers testing, and we're suspicious that they're Charger SRT Hellcat Redeyes.

We say this because the covered-up taller hood gives away that this 6.2-liter V-8 has a larger supercharger slapped on top of it—a 2.7-liter supercharger, that is. The Challenger Redeye can be differentiated from the 707-hp (and now 717-hp) Hellcats by a twin-snorkel hood that feeds more air into the intake. Whether or not the Redeye Chargers have this is currently unknown.

In addition to the larger supercharger—the largest on a production car along with the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1—Redeyes have a larger air intake, increased boost pressure (14.5 psi vs. 11.6 psi), a 6500-rpm redline, and two dual-stage fuel pumps.

During our testing, the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody launched to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and raced through the quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds at 128 mph. Oh, and we did a burnout, too. In past tests, Charger Hellcats have proven slightly quicker than Challengers, so the Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye may jump off the line a couple tenths quicker than its Challenger sibling, too.
