Did you know there’s an election next week? Here’s how to vote in Johnson County.

Election Day is fast approaching for Johnson County. The deadline to register to vote has already passed, but registered voters still have time to make a voting plan.

The election on Nov. 2 will fill essential local roles including various mayors, city council seats, representatives for several school boards and more.

To see exactly which offices are up for grabs in your precinct and who’s running to fill them, you can put in your name and date of birth to check out a sample ballot here.

Here’s what else you need to know to cast your ballot in Johnson County.

Early voting in person

Early voting began on Oct. 23 and ends on Nov. 1 at noon.

Registered voters can vote early at any of these eight early voting locations, regardless of where you live in Johnson County. All early voting sites are closed on Sundays, and some are also closed on Monday, Nov. 1. If you’re planning to vote on that day, be sure to check your chosen location’s hours in advance.

Election Day voting in person

Election Day is on Nov. 2. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you’re voting on Election Day, you must do so at the polling place assigned to your ward and precinct. You can find that on this list. If you’re not sure which polling place to visit, put in your address here to find your polling place.

Remember: The only thing Johnson County voters need to bring with them to the polls is a government-issued photo ID. You can check which types of ID documents qualify here. If you don’t have an acceptable form of ID, you can apply for a voter ID card through the Kansas DMV here. You may also find it helpful to bring along the voter information card you got in the mail from the county elections office, or review your sample ballot online.

Mailed Ballot Voting

The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is today, Tuesday, October 26. Any registered voter can request a mail-in ballot in Kansas. You don’t need an excuse. Voters can apply for a mail-in ballot in Johnson County here. All mail-in ballots must be returned by Election Day.

You have four options for returning your ballot:

By mail. Mail your ballot to the Johnson County Election Office at 2101 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe, KS 66061. This address is already printed on the enclosed return envelope. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received by Nov. 5.

To any early voting location. You can drop off your mail-in ballot at any of the eight early voting locations during their open hours. Make sure you return your ballot before 7 p.m. on Election Day.

To any polling place. While you must vote in person at your own polling place, you can return a mailed ballot to any of them before 7 p.m. on Election Day.

To a ballot drop box. There are eight ballot drop boxes in Johnson County. You can find their locations here, at the bottom of the page. These ballot drop boxes are open 24/7 until 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Important reminder: Don’t forget to carefully follow all the instructions included with your mailed ballot. If you don’t follow these instructions, your vote may not be counted. If you have specific questions, call the Johnson County Election Office at 913715-6800.
